Great Falls Tribune (MT), 12 April 1900

Celia Calhoun, 6-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Calhoun of Columbus, was burned to death. The child was returning home from school at noon when the accident occurred that cost her life. A fire had been started in front of the house of her grandfather, Pat Lavelle, to burn the rubbish. On her way home she stopped a minute along with some other children, to play near the fire. Her clothes became ignited and she ran screaming toward the residence of her uncle, Henry Grant. Mrs. Grant tried to extinguish the flames with her own clothes. So did Mr. Lavelle, who succeeded and both were badly burned. Physicians were called and everything possible was done to save the life of the little one and relieve her sufferings, but she died at 10 o'clock the next morning in fearful agony.
