Virlyn Lamar Bulger, age 82, of Florence, Ala., passed away Monday evening, Feb. 28, 2005, in the hospital.Virlyn was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Atlanta, Ga. He was the son of the late William Clark Bulger and the late Lilliem Mae Wood Bulger. Virlyn was a retired professor of science from the University of North Alabama. He has been a resident of Florence for 38 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, of Florence, a member of the Florence Lions Club and UNA Sportsman's Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.Visitation will be Thursday March 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Spry Serenity Chapel, Florence. The funeral service will be Friday, March 4, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Larry Wright officiating. Interment will follow, with military honors at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.Pallbearers will be family members.Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.Virlyn was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ruth Carver Bulger.Survivors include his son, Donald L. Bulger and wife, Betty, of Richmond, Va; daughters, Linda Cornatzer, of Florence, Patricia Waddell and husband, Larry, of Centre, Ala., Sandra Wade and husband, Donald, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Donna Colburn, of Charleston, R.I., Deanna Daniel, of Richmond, Va., Teresa Lentz, Richard Cornatzer, of Florence, Johathan Waddell and Angelyn Waddell, of Atlanta, Ga., Michael Wade, of Alabaster, Ala., and Vicki Wade, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three great-granddaughters, Caroline Lentz, Britton Wade and Rose Emmons; four great-grandsons, Hunter Cornatzer, Eric Colburn, John and Willie Daniel; brother, Vernon Bulger; and sisters, Mildred Coyle and Jeanette McCain.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of North Alabama UNA Physics & Earth Science Dept. or Athletic Department, UNA Foundation, P.O. Box 5059, University of North Alabama, Florence, AL 35632-0001, First Baptist Church of Florence, 209 N.
