They met at Central Methodist College and married in Maitland, MO on March 9, 1934. Dr. Van Deventer was a distinguished science educator and Professor of Biology. He taught at various colleges prior to being a faculty member at Western Michigan University. He served as Head of the Department of Biology at Western Michigan University, Kalamazo, MI from 1953 to 1963. He was awarded the 61st Science Education Recognition Award and was involved the organization of the Michigan public school science teachers association. Dr. and Mrs. Van Deventer are the parents of Frank Gibson Van Deventer (wife Sally, children Matthew and Sarah).
