Harry, as he was known in his later life, was born into a blended family. His mother, May Wilhelmina née DUNN SEIDEL had had 4 children with her first spouse, Edward Fredrick SEIDEL. Harry was his mother's seventh child, and the youngest of the three children born to May and her 2nd spouse, Henry Harrison HINES (for whom Harry was named). Harry's Great Grandfather was also named Henry Harrison HINES [1817-1901].

In 1923, Harry's parents were living in Fairview, Multnomah County, Oregon and moved to Portland that same year. His birth followed shortly thereafter.

1930 census -- some SEIDEL sibs have moved out -- Harry lived at his parents' home at 878 Yale St (after 1933 city-wide changes, this address became 5608 North Yale Street).

When Harry was 14, his older sister Violetta May HINES, 20, married Elden Louis MEYER, 31. The date was 6 Nov 1938, the same as her brother James's 19th birthday.
1940 census --

Enlistment - Navy - Seabees....

4 Nov 1945 Death of his older brother, James Alva HINES

Harry, at 29, married Ann Lauretta (née TRAHAN) McCORMICK on 6 Mar 1954 in Stevenson, Skamania County, Washington.
They lived at 5610 North Yale St, until his death -- beside his parents' home at 5608 North Yale St, where Harry grew up.

OBITUARY (edited):
Hines, Henry H. Age 86 06/11/1924 12/18/2010
Dad's deadpan reply, "Well, alright." was the most enthusiasm you usually heard from him. Harry was born June 11, 1924, in Portland, to May Wilhelmina and Henry H. Hines Sr. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Philippines. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a driver trainer for 25 years. He is survived by his daughters, Anita ... Jerri-Llyn ...; stepchildren, Corrine ... Dennis , Patricia ... and Earl ; 10 grand-children; nine great-grand-children; and two great-great-grandchildren. We want to thank Home Matters Caregiving providers in general and Byron Lewis and Theresa Hines* in particular, for making it possible for Dad to remain in his home these last two years. Without your help, we know we would not have had him as long as we did. No service will be held, but a wake and celebration of his life will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at his favorite restaurant, Gateway Applebee's, 10004 N.E. Halsey St., Portland.
