NOTE: Jesse was initially buried in a Portland, Oregon cemetery. Some time later, his remains were relocated to this Turlock, California cemetery. See last paragraph below for further details.

Edward Fredrick SEIDEL and May Wilhelmina DUNN married in April 1902 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Jesse was the youngest of 3 sons born to them as the family moved around Wisconsin.

By the 15 Apr 1910 census, the family of 5 was living in Whitney, Dawes County, Nebraska, where Edward was a railroad laborer. By Oct 1912, when their only daughter was born, the family had arrived in Oregon.

On Edward's death in Portland, Oregon, in May 1915, the four siblings ranged in age from 2 to 12. Jesse was 7. In Jan 1916, May, at 32, married Henry Harrison "Harry" HINES, a month before he turned 30. Between 1918 and 1924, their blended family grew with the births of two sons and a daughter. In the 1 Jan 1920 census, all the children were recorded with Henry's HINES surname and without indication of his step-parentage. In the 1930 census, the two SEIDEL kids still at home with Henry (i.e. Harry and May) were listed as his step-children with their SEIDEL surname.

Having turned 18 in Dec 1929, Jesse Edward SEIDEL enlisted in the US Marine Corps, on 12 Apr 1926 [USMC Service #205057]. In the 1 Apr 1930 census, age 22, he was living in the Marine Barracks in the US "Navy Yard Puget Sound", in Kitsap County, Washington.

On 30 Apr 1930, Jesse married Hazel Grace HOLCOMB, age 21, in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington. They gave their residences as Multnomah County, Oregon. [Their mothers "May W HINES" and "Ura V HOLCOMB" (1867-1957) signed the marriage certificate as witnesses.] In 1937, Jesse and Hazel were living at 5717 North Yale St, Portland, across the street from his mother's home. Within a year or so, they divorced (with no known children). On 2 Aug 1940, in Camas, Clark County, Washington, Hazel married Lloyd Frederick LA GRANGE.

On 7 Mar 1942, at 34, Jesse married Delores H HELMS* in Vancouver, Clark Co, Washington, USA. Both gave their residences as Multnomah Co, Oregon. On 14 Feb 1943, they had twin girls; on 5 Jan 1947, another daughter, and on 29 Nov 1948, a son, Edward Fredrick SEIDEL. Edward passed away in Raleigh NC on 23 Aug 2009. All 4 children were born in Oregon.
* Delores was born with the name "Harriett Bel KILGORE" on 25 Mar 1917 to Alfred Clinton KILGORE (1887 - 1952) and Harriett Belle "Hattie" (nee PARVIN) KILGORE (1900 - 1981). See her Find A Grave Memorial# 52810076. Hattie later married Robert Melvin HJELM, about 1930 in Portland, Oregon. At some point, Harriett began using the name "Delores" and began using HELMS as her surname - an Anglicized form of her step-father's surname "HJELM".

Later, Jesse married Mary VICCIO. Mary was born in Feb 1905 in California.

Upon his death at age 67, Jesse was buried in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, in Plot: A, 2976. [Data from US Veteran's Affairs and initial Find A Grave Record added on 4 Mar 2000 as F.A.G. Memorial #3931781.] Later, possibly upon the death in 1980 of his last wife, Mary, his remains were removed and relocated to California, where he and Mary are buried together.
