Lucinda Duncan was born in Blount County, Tenn, September 16, 1832, came with her parents to Iowa in 1844, was married to F. J. Moore September 19, 1853. To this union ten children were born five of whom died in infancy and five are left with the bereaved husband to mourn the loss of a wife and mother. The living children are Joseph J., Emma, Melissa, Charles W. and Mrs. Carrie Sipe all of whom were with her at the last. Hers was a beautiful Christian life, quiet and unassuming her noblest qualities were known only to her family and nearest friends for more than 30 years she had been in poor health yet never murmured or complained. She had been a faithful member of the United Presbyterian church for many years. Her death occurred at the close of a beautiful Sabbath day August 2 1903. Her last illness was brief and comparatively painless to those who anxiously watched over her it seemed as if she fell to sleep on earth where she had borne lifes cares and sorrows, to awake in that brighter and happier country where there is no pain or sorrow where all tears are wiped away and all sadness forgotten, in the joy of the redeemed. Truly we can say "Her children arise up and call her blessed, her husband also and he praiseth her." Three brothers James of this place and Samuel and Russell of Allerton, Iowa, are left with many friends to mourn. The sympathy of friends is extended to the aged husband who is left to walk the rest of lifes journey without the love and companionship which had blessed so nearly a century of his life. Had Mrs. Moore been spared until September 19 they had expected to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
