On March 16, 1926 he married Renata Reetz and they farmed in Saline County south of Tobias. They had three children: LaVona, ElRoy, and Laird.
At the time of his death, he was living with daughter LaVona. She reported that he had wandered off and he was found five hours later, but had died from natural causes with the heat a contributing factor.
Pre-deceasing him was a grandson, Lloyd Willis Niederklein. Surviving him were his wife, three children, and 12 grandchildren.
