LaVona Bartels was born 10 Feb 1928 in Saline county, Nebraska near Tobias, the oldest child and only daughter of Paul and Renata (Reetz) Bartels. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church south of Tobias and then married Willis Niederklein there on August 24, 1947. To this union was born seven children: Lyle Leroy, Joyce Arlene, Leslie James, Lloyd Willis, Faye Ann, Lonnie Paul, and William LaMonte. Two sons preceded her in death: Lloyd who was killed in an auto accident in 1976 and Lonnie who died from lymphoma in 1985; both are also buried in Zion Lutheran church cemetery. LaVona lost her fight with cancer on 28 Jun 2004. Surviving her, besides her children, were her husband and two brothers.
