Hattie lived with her parents, and her brother Henry, keeping house for each one. After Henry's death in 1975 she moved to Geneva in 1976.
She joined the Grace Lutheran Church where she was a very active and devoted member. She also did volunteer work at the nursing home. She entered the Heritage Crossings Nursing Home in 2000 and still continued to volunteer herservices in reading and playing games with the residents. After many years of service she was called to rest on Tuesday evening June 3, 2008.
She was preceded in death by her father Henry in 1931, mother Marie in 1942; her brothers Herman, Ernst, Fred G, John, Henry, Paul, Emil, Ted, Edwin, and infant brothers Wilhelm and Walter Bartels; sister Hulda Obermueller; nephews martin, Leonard, Erwin, Hubert and Frederick Bartels; nieces Viola Reetz, Loretta Drees, LaVona Niederderklein and Helen Bolte.
She is survived by 16 nephews: Bernard, William, Junior, Eugene, ElRoy, Richard and Laird Bartels all of Tobias, NE; Arlon and Roy Bartels of Lincoln, NE; Raymond, Walter, John, Lester, Wendell and Aaron Bartels and Melvin Obermueller all out of state. And by 14 nieces: Wilma Jordening, Lucinda Beckman, Marie Francis and Adair Craig all of Lincoln, NE; Lela Bauer of Fairbury, NE; Bernice Pfingsten of Beatrice, NE; Lois Schoenbeck and Clarice Meyer of Daykin, NE; Isabel Wendt, Priscilla Scholl, Enola Erdley, Irma Penn, Carolyn Scott and Lenora Bartels all out of state.
Funeral services were conducted at Grace Lutheran Church in Geneva, Nebraska at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2008. Casket bearers were Arlon, Eugene, Laird, Richard, and Roy Bartels and Melvin Obermueller. Honorary Casket Bearers were Raymond, Walter, Bernard, William, Junior, ElRoy, Lester, Wendell, and Aaron Bartels. Graveside Services were held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Tobias, NE.
