Darious Elmer, the youngest of five sons, was born to Darious J. and Sophronia E. Cook, October 16, 1875, near Exeter, Nebraska and departed this life at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, Nebr., Dec. 8, 1962 at the age of 87 years, one month, and 21 days.
Mr. Cook moved with his parents to Chase County in 1890 and resided on a farm three miles west of Imperial.
In March, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Viola Elinor Clay at Imperial. Seven children were born to this union: Casper M. of Renton, Wash.; Frank L. of Imperial; Orrant M. and K. Floyd of Imperial; Ruby E. (Mrs. Robert Baker) of Sheridan Lake, Colo., and two sons who passed away at birth.
Elmer knew the hardships of the pioneer days of Chase County, his parents having moved to Clay County, Nebraska, in 1897. He took over the farm and with the exception of four or five years he continued to farm until 1935 when he, with his wife and daughter, moved to Imperial.
In 1930 he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior being born again into the family of God he identified himself with Christ in the waters of baptism. Although not too active in the Lord's work, he did enjoy reading God's word and speaking to others about his Savior, telling them how they too could be saved.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Viola, in 1955, two infant sons, his father, mother and four brothers.
Due to illness the past four years it was necessary for him to make his home with the children. He was a patient sufferer, never complaining and had often expressed a desire to go home to be with the Lord.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his four sons and their wives, his daughter and her husband, 13 grandchildren and their husbands and wives, and 29 great grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Walter Clay of Fort Collins, Colo., one sister-in-law Ora Askey of San Fernando, Calif., several neices and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, December 12, at the Methodist Church in Imperial. Ben Parmer of Burlington, Colo., gave the sermon and C.W. Pribbeno and Lester D. Adams say, "Haven of Rest", "In the Beloved", and "Come Golden Daybreak", accompanied by Mrs. Emily Arnison. Casket bearers were grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Darius Baker, Durward, Everett and Eldon Cook, Ray Ridlen and William Hayes.
Interment was at Mount Hope Cemetery with Luhrs & Reynolds in charge of arrangements.
