DURIAS (sic) J. COOK (OBITUARY)
Durias (sic) J. Cook was born at Gilson, Knox County, Illinois, September 23, 1837 and passed to his eternal home at Imperial, Nebraska, July 24th, 1926 having attained the ripe age of 88 years, 10 months and 1 day. On November 19, 1857, Durias (sic) J. Cook and Elizabeth Saphrona Stephens plighted their troth for better or worse and until the Infinite One called her home did they walk together. To this union were born five sons. When the political days were dark the young husband bade his young wife and dear ones goodbye and went into the service of his country. During the struggle for preservation of the union, he served with Company B 77 Vol. Inf. When the smoke of battle had rolled away and the home was re-established Greeley's advice seemed to be the best so the Cook family journeyed toward the west and settled in Fillmore county in 1871. Not so long after this they came to Clay county and settled near Clay Center. In 1899 "Dad", as he was familiarly called, and his helpmate moved to the city of Clay Center where they remained until Mother was called into the Eternal world. Since the home has been broken "Dad" has made his home with his children. The last summons reached "Dad" at his home of his son, Elmer, at Imperial, Nebraska. The five sons that gather to morn the going of their father are Lewis of Fairfield, Nebr., Malanthen, Oakley Kas., Jacob E. Clay Center, Nebr., Arthur of Kennendale, Washington and Elmer of Imperial. There are also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends that morn his going and shall miss him sorely.
