Ovid Lee "Mickey" Hunt, was born June 27, 1938 at a rural residence in Latimer County west of Talihina, Oklahoma. He was the seventh child of John A. Hunt and Grace Estelle Yearwood Hunt. He grew up in Talihina in the nurture of a large family and a small community. He attended the public schools in Talihina where he was known as a good student and a valuable member in the high school band.
After graduating high school in 1957 he enlisted in the US Air Force where he served for four years. After basic training he was assigned to the Intelligence Branch. He received advance training at the Intelligence School at San Angelo, Texas, for one year. He was assigned duties at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, where he served another year. He was then assigned to a military intelligence facility at Misawa, Japan, where he served for two years. After which, he took an honorable discharge and returned to San Antonio, Texas.
After an interim, he enlisted in the US Navy and served for six years. He was again assigned to the Intelligence Branch and received advanced training in cryptology at Charleston, South Carolina. He had duty assignments in Iceland and the Panama Canal Zone, where he served two years. His final duty assignment was in Japan near Yokohama where he served until taking an honorable discharge. His rating was CT2 (Cryptologic Technician 2nd Class), E-5 pay grade.
He was married to Delores of Jordanton, Texas, from about 1958 to about 1962; there were no children.
While in Japan Mickey developed an keen interest in motorcycles, and he formed an officially sanctioned motorcycle club of fellow servicemen. The Club built its own track for racing, but Mickey especially loved to race up Mount Fuji. In California he rode motorcycles in speed races and was assistant to prominent other riders, including Evel Knievel. He later worked for motorcycle dealerships and managed racing teams in Texas at locations in Dallas, Plano, and Denton, as well as at Durant, Oklahoma.
Mickey was living in retirement in Denton, Texas, at the time of his death on the morning of June 13, 2011 at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital.
On the morning of June 27th, which would have been his 73rd birthday, his ashes were interred at this cemetery by his close family.
