Merrill was a jockey. During his short life he earned Top Jockey for three years straight in Seattle, Washington and California. He previously set an all-time record in Seattle around 1960, by winning six first, two second and one third place races in one day. The former one-day mark of five winners was held collectively by several riders.

He had several hot streaks; at age 22, he earned the riding lead for the season with 24 wins, 12 seconds and 11 thirds from 111 mounts.

Although I don't have all his races other important info, nor the names of his horses, I do have a few things and bits of info. I have a “Longacres Official Racing Program” for 1962 Season, Saturday, June 23 1962. Merrill Faulkner was listed in four races that day. He rode horses in the “Second Race” number 2 riding, “Call Command”; the “Fourth Race” number 3 riding, “Prince Satin”; the “Seventh Race” number 2 riding, “Quarter After”, the “Ninth Race” number 8 riding, “Full Color” and the “Tenth Race” number 11 riding, “Siouxson”.

“Faulkner Wins Six on Longacres Card - Seattle, July 4 --Jockey Merrill Faulkner of Salt Lake City, Utah, rode six winners at Longacres track to set a single day record.”

August 26, 1956, Merrill rode, “English Prince” and “Mr. John D.” at the Longacres Racetrack.

Longacres history: racetrack located in Renton, WA 1933 – 1992. Thoroughbred racing was the longest continually operated track on the west coast.
