Former Packing plant head affiliated with firm for 40 years
Dominick A. Rafferty, 68, former manager of Armour & Company in Syracuse for 40 years, died last night at his home, 968 Bellevue Avenue, following a four months' illness.
Mr. Rafferty, a native Syracusan, was a son of Dominick A. and Mary Hughes Rafferty. He began his career in the meat packing business when he was employed by Mowry & Barnes Company, and later was named manager of Hamond Company.
When the Hammond organization became affiliated with Armour & Company he was made district manager and held that position for 40 years until his retirement in 1930. Later he joined the Penn Mutual Insurance Company.
Mr. Rafferty's only son, Donald, drowned in Oneida Lake, Oct 12, 1917 with a companion, Willard Glen Jr. His oldest daughter, Grace, died in 1915. The late William P. Rafferty and Mr. Rafferty were brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie Sloan Rafferty; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas J. McCormick; a grandson, Thomas J. McCormick, Jr.; three sisters, Mrs. Anthony Farrell, Mrs. George M. Barnes, and Miss Sadie Rafferty, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning from the home at 8:45 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Burial will be at St. Agnes Cemetery.
