Joseph Louis Kobliska, son of Vaclav Kobliska and Eleonora Bruna, was born March 22, 1874, in Spillville, Iowa. He and died August 19, 1957, at Chetek, Barron County, Wisconsin, aged 83 years, 4 months and 17 days, and was buried there beside the remains of his wife in Saint Boniface Cemetery. Joseph was baptized March 25, 1874, in the Roman Catholic faith at the St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville, Iowa. His sponsors were Francis Pletka and Mary Pletka.

On June 7, 1898, Joseph was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Dean in a ceremony performed by Reverend C. A. Slocum at Chetek, Wisconsin, witnessed by Mr. and Mrs. Grant Ross of that city. At the time of their marriage Joseph was a resident of Weyerhaeuser, Rust County, Wisconsin, and Mary was a resident of Chetek.

Mary was born August 1, 1878, at Chetek, daughter of Charles Samuel Dean and Mariette Albee. She died there February 6, 1949, aged 70 years, 6 months and 5 days, at Chetek and was buried there in the family plot in Saint Boniface Cemetery. Their children, all born in Wisconsin, were:

Joseph eventually became a depot agent for the Soo Line Railroad at Weyerhaeuser, a village established in November 1884, when a Post Office was established where the Soo Line Railroad crossed the Chippewa Logging Road. Joseph was interested in civic affairs and served as the Village Clerk and also as Clerk of the Weyerhaeuser School Board for a number of years. In 1916, he built the building which became known as Kobliska's Hall or Joe Kobliska's Opera House, which he operated as a pool hall, dance hall, movie theater, and restaurant in Weyerhaeuser. It was also used for weddings, meetings, roller skating and even for basketball. His wife Mary was famed for her delicious lemon pies which were served in the restaurant. At one time there was a livery stable across the street which caught fire and burned to the ground and caused the woodwork on the opera house to catch fire, but the firemen managed to save it

Joseph L. Kobliska passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, August 10, 1957, at the age of 83 years. He was born March 2, 1874, at Spillville, Iowa.
On June 6, 1898, he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Dean of Chetek, Wisconsin, who preceded him in death on February 6, 1941.

To this union six children were born: Charles who preceded his father in death and the following surviving children, Mabel (Mrs. George Whipple) and Anne (Mrs. Russell Goodrie), both of Minneapolis; Carl of Weyerhauser; Lester Kobliska and Myrtle Niederloh, both of Chetek. He is also survived by one sister, Annie of Protivin, Iowa, and eleven grandchildren.

He was a resident of Weyerhauser for over 30 years, moving to Chetek in 1936 when he retired to spend his remaining years on the Chetek Chain of Lakes which for years were a steadfast attraction for him.

He was a member of the Catholic Church and services were held at St. Boniface Church on Tuesday morning with Fr. W. Michalicka officiating and interment took place at the Chetek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Lunch, Frank May, Frank Praska of Calmer, Iowa, Frank Kobliska of Ironwood, Michigan, and Jim Kobliska of Rice Lake.

Others from out of town attending the services were Russell Goodrie and George Whipple of Minneapolis, Mrs. T. H. Joyce of Rice Lake, Mrs. Anna Jirik, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hosek, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bouska and David, Mrs. Leonard Pecinovski of Protivin, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kobliska, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Praska, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Praska of Elma, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Praska of Calmer, Iowa, Iowa, Albert Niederloh, Mrs. Jos. Meyers, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Hegquist, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Zarnkey, Janet Niederloh and David Kobliska of Minneapolis and Rev. and Mrs. W. R. Huseby of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
