John F. Allen, a Civil War veteran and an early Iron River settler, married Eliza Wall following his discharge from Co. "L," 3rd Regiment, Wisconsin Cavalry on October 23, 1865. Records indicate that John and Eliza, sons Frank, John, Jesse and daughter Minnie came to Iron River in 1882 from Menominee, Michigan. John F. Allen died in Iron River in 1908.

Eliza wife born Jan 1834 New York age 66 married 45 years 7 children 6 living. Frank son born Sep 1856 Wisconsin age 43 single stone mason. Bert [Burt] son born June 1872 Wisconsin age 27 single day laborer. Minnie daughter born Nov 1875 Michigan age 24.
