Keith entered the Army in 1918 and immediately came down with the Spanish 'flu, which developed into spinal meningitis. He barely lived and was released from the Army early. He became an educator, teaching in schools in the Uintah Basin and then Ogden, Utah. He eventually obtained bachelor's and master's degrees and died while finishing a PhD degree in Greeley, Colorado. He was superintendent of Weber County Schools in Ogden, Utah. He was married to Eva Larue Maxwell and after she died, to Ruth Folkman, an English teacher in the high school where he was the principal.
Keith had three sons with Eva, and three more sons and a daughter with Ruth.
