Funeral services were held Monday, September 24, for John Goerge Hurt Sr. 64, of Hampstead R.D.2, who died Friday evening, September 21, at Hanover Hospital. Born in Virginia, he was the son of Ida Bailey Hurt, Sykesville, and the late George W. Hurt. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elva R. Smith Hurt; four sons and one daughter, David Lee Hurt, El Paso Texas; John G. Hurt Jr., Hampstead; R. Clark Hurt Hanover Pa..; Robert W. Hurt Hampstead and Mrs. David Howard, Baltimore; and 11 grandchildren: four sisters and one brother, Mrs. William Amoss, Taneytown; Mrs. Richard Arrington, Sykesville; Mrs. Monroe Slagle, Sykesville; Mrs. Benjamin Slagle, Woodbine; and James Hurt, Sykesville. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hampstead. Funeral services were held at the Eline funeral home, 202 South main street, Hampstead, Monday September 24 at 2 p.m.. The Rev. Arthur S. Hanson officiated. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
