Born in Virginia, he was the son of Ida Bailey Hurt, Sykesville, and the late George W. Hurt. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elva R. Smith Hurt; four sons and one daughter, David Lee Hurt, El Paso Texas; John G. Hurt Jr., Hampstead; R. Clark Hurt Hanover Pa..; Robert W. Hurt Hampstead and Mrs. David Howard, Baltimore; and 11 grandchildren: four sisters and one brother, Mrs. William Amoss, Taneytown; Mrs. Richard Arrington, Sykesville; Mrs. Monroe Slagle, Sykesville; Mrs. Benjamin Slagle, Woodbine; and James Hurt, Sykesville. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hampstead. Funeral services were held at the Eline funeral home, 202 South main street, Hampstead, Monday September 24 at 2 p.m.. The Rev. Arthur S. Hanson officiated. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
