Alex Wiesner Dies At Age 81
Longtime County Resident Survived by 10 Children

Alex Wiesner, 81, father of 14 children died yesterday evening at St. Anthony's hospital after a protracted illness of three to four months. Mr. Wiesner was born in the neighborhood of Kamenka, Russia, on Feb. 5, 1868, and came to his county with the German-Russian migration so well known here in 1879 when he was 11 years old.

Mr. Wisner's first wife was Pauline Meier Wiesner, who was the mother of his 14 children and who died at Ellis in 1923. His second marriage in the late twenties was to Anna Werth, and who had been the widow of Fred Werth of Schoenchen.

Shortly after his first marriage, Mr. Wiesner farmed near Hays, and in 1900 moved to his farm near Ellis, where he enjoyed a good measure of success in raising wheat during and subsequent to World War I. Upon his retirement in 1925 he moved his family to Hays, where he has had residence until his death.

The first born in his family was Jacob, former county attorney for Ellis county, who died in 1927. The other children in the approximate order of their ages are Frank A. Wiesner, Ellis; Mrs. Albert (Ida) Staab, Hays; Mrs. A. A. (Clara) Herman, Hays; P. S. Wiesner, Ellis; Mrs. F. A. (Agnes) Tubbs, Denver; Andrew (deceased while a seminary student); Mary (deceased in childhood); Joseph (deceased in childhood); Mrs. M. P. (Josepha) Goetz, Hays; Mrs. Arthur (Mary) Angerer, Denver; Joe A. Wiesner, Ellis; Paul M. Wiesner, St. Louis; and Fred L. Wiesner, Hays.

The Joseph and Mary having passed away in childhood, were replaced by another Joseph and Mary. Mr. Wiesner was the grandfather of 60 many of whom are married and are the providers of many great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wiesner also came from another large family among his brothers and sisters being, A. A. Wiesner, Hays; Joe F. Wiesner, Ellis; Leo Wiesner, Ellis; and Brother Wendelin of the Victoria Seminary. Three of his sisters were nuns, not stationed in this vicinity.
