H.A. Van Laningham
Funeral services for Hervey A. Van Laningham, 63, were held Monday afternoon at 3:00 from the Swan funeral home, with Rev. H.H. Dill, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge of the services. Interment was in Wilson cemetery, 2 miles east of Independence. Mr. Van Laningham passed away Friday evening, February 13, following several months of Illness.
He was born January 30, 1870, the youngest of a family of ten children, to G.A. and Elizabeth Van Laningham, in Illinois. He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Kidd in 1900 at Oglesby, Illinois. To this union were born two children, one dying in infancy, and a daughter Odessa, dying at the age of 3 years. The death of the little girl was a great tragedy to her father.
Mr. Van Laningham came to Iowa about 25 years ago, following the occupation of farming. He was a good workman, a good neighbor and friend and was always ready to render assistance whenever called upon to do so.
He became ill about two months ago and was taken to the University hospital in Iowa City where it was found he could not be helped.
He is survived by a brother, Albert, Tonica, Illinois, one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Hammer, St. Louis, Missouri, and seveal nieces and nephews.
