David Benton Van Lanigham was born near Indianapolis, Indiana, November 17, 1857, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. I.L. Hitchens in Winthrop, after a lingering illness of four months, Thursday morning, November 6, 1930. Mr. Van Laningham was united in marriage in 1879 to Miss Nancy A. Klepfer, of Oaklandon, Indiana. They removed from Indiana to Illinois, where eight children were born, one son dying in infancy. He is survived by the following sons and daughters; Charles, of Rockford, Illinois; Otto, of Aurora; Walter, of Tonica, Illinois; Bert, of Independence; Mrs. Ada Hitchens, of Winthrop; Mrs. Hazel Siemers, of Lostant, Illinois, and Mrs. Belle Hunter, of Raymond. All were here for the services except Mrs. Margaret Hammer, St. Louis; Albert Van Laningham. His wife passed away in 1906
at Indianapolis, Indiana. Twelve years ago he moved to Iowa and has made his home with his children since then. He was united with the Methodist church in his earlier years and has lived according to the rituals of that church. He was a man of steadfastness and unquestionable intergrity and leaves the memory of his influences and worthy examples to his children. He was a devoted father and grandfather. About six months ago his health began to fail, while living with his son Otto. He made a short visit with his daughter at Raymond and son in Independence. Going then to his daughter in Winthrop, where he passed away. For the past four months he has been bedfast and has been tenderly cared for by his children. All that loving hands and medical science could do to ease his suffering were done, but to no avail. His duties here were accomplished. He heard his Master calling and was ready. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Congregational church in Winthrop by Rev. George Fowler, with burial at the Wilson cemetery, east of Independence. Other relatives who came for the funeral services were Jeff Johnson, of Seneca, Illinois; Dewey Wilson, Mrs. Cora Wilson and Lloyd Johnson, all of LaSalle, Illinois, and George Van Laningham and Mrs. Lola Hosfeldt, of Rockford, Illinois, and Mrs. Sylvia Matthews, of Ottawa, Illinois.
