Maud Myrtle Van Laningham Rowe, daughter of George A. and Elizabeth Van Laningham was born in Oaklandon, Indiana, January 1, 1873 and departed this life at her home two and a half miles east of Tonica on May 11, 1920, at the age of 47 years, 4 months and 12 days. While she was quite young her parents moved from Indiana to Illinois, and resided on a farm near Tonica in and around which village her entire life has been spent. On the 3rd of July, 1890, she was united in marriage with Harvey Rowe of Tonica. But the marriage ties were soon severed, as Mr. Rowe after a few months illness passed away on the 20th of March 1896. Three son were born to this union Harry, who died in infancy and Levi and Warren of Tonica. During her last illness, which began last August, she has been a great sufferer, but has borne it all very patiently, trusting all on her Savior. In September she was taken to the hospital and for a time she seemed to improve and her friends had hopes that in time she might fully recover, but it was not to be so. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in Tonica and a regular attendant when it was possible for her to be present. She was also member of the Royal Neighbors of America of Tonica. The deceased leaves beside her two sons one daughter-in-law, one little grandson. Glenn Rowe, three brothers David B. Van Laningham, of Iowa, Albert and Hervey of Tonica, Mrs. Etta Esch of Independence,Iowa; Alice Graves of LaSalle, Mrs. Margaret Hammer of Peoria, beside a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn her departure. Funeral service were conducted on Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal church Tonica. Rev. H. R. Koaiske was in charge and he spoke appropriate words for the occasion to the large number in attendance. Burial was made in the Old cemetery.
