Waseca Lady Dies Suddenly

Death came suddenly to Mrs. Delevan Turnacliff early Sunday morning, the news of her passing away coming as a distinct shock to the people of this city. She had retired the night before apparently in her usual health. Her husband remembers hearing her leave their room upstairs about 3 or 4 o'clock Sunday morning and going downstairs. He arose about 8 o'clock and busied himself with chores about the house for a couple of hours, thinking his wife was sleeping in the bedroom downstairs. About 10 o'clock he went to awaken her and discovered her lying dead in the bed. She lay as if asleep, not a coverlet disturbed and no signs whatever of any struggle. A physician was summoned and attempts to revive her were made but all in vain. The spark of life had died.

The maiden name of the deceased was Margaret Brisbane and she was born in Andes, Delaware county, New York state on December 12, 1847, this making her past 65 years of age.

She came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Brisbane when a young girl to Alto township, Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin, where they lived for a few years and in 1859 they came to Waseca county, settling on a farm in Wilton.

She was united in marriage to Delevan Turnacliff in 1867, and she resided on her husband's farm in Wilton until the family moved to this city about 18 years ago.

The deceased is survived by her husband and 5 sons, Eugene of Wilton, this county, Cleve B. of Waseca, Dale D. of Minneapolis and Will and Owen of Olds, Alberta, Canada, and by 11 grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers and two sisters: Alec Brisbane and William Brisbane of this city, John Brisbane of New Richland, Thomas Brisbane of Fort Ripley, Minn., Mrs. Hannah Root of this city, and Mrs. Kate Richter of Fairwater, Wis. The deceased was a woman of excellent qualities. She was an active member of the Methodist church and was a zealous church worker.

Her many friends will be saddened to hear of her sudden death.

Ripley.
"...the sudden death of Mrs. Turnacliff recalls the fact that her mother and two sisters died in a similar manner. In each case, they retired in their usual health and passed away during the night."
