County Pioneer Who Was Well Known Here, Civil War Veteran Died Last Wednesday;
William R. Brisbane, Sixty-Two -Year Resident of County, Dies After Short Illness

William R. Brisbane, a pioneer resident of Waseca county for the past sixty-two years, died at his home in this city, Wednesday afternoon at 5:45 o'clock, following an illness of three weeks, the ultimate cause being an internal hemorrhage.
Mr. Brisbane was born in Andes, Delaware county, New York, June 5, 1845. At the age of four years he with his parents moved to Waupun, Wisconsin, where they lived until 1859, from which place they moved to this county.
On August 29, 1864, he enlisted in Co. F, Tenth Regiment, in which he served until Aug. 19, 1865, under General Thomas.
On Dec. 25, 1867, he was united in marriage to Margaret Penny of Freeborn county, the marriage taking place at Albert Lea. After that they lived on a farm in Wilton township where nine children were born to them, six boys, Aldis and Walter of Morris, Minn., Clare, Frank, Arthur and Wallace of Waseca, and three girls, Mrs. Anna Stearns of Waseca, Nellie May (deceased) and Mrs. Theodore Bilben of Waseca. Three brothers also survive him, Alex and John Y. of this city and Thomas of Brainerd, Minn.
In the year of 1901 he and his family moved to this city.
On Christmas Day, 1917, Mr. and Mrs. Brisbane celebrated their 50th anniversary of wedded life, a half-century of unbroken devotion and happiness until death claimed him, leaving a devoted wife to mourn his loss.
He was a man among men, honesty was one of his abiding characteristics and which he always followed. His home was always open to friends and neighbors, which was the place of many a happy gathering. He was alert to the comforts of others as well as himself and family. His friends are legion and his loss to the community will long be remembered.
The funeral was held Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the house with Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Burial was in Woodville cemetery. People from out of town who attended the funeral were: Thomas Brisbane and wife of Brainerd, Minn., Aldis and Walter Brisbane of Morris, Minn., Mrs. Fannie Stearns of Ellendale, Minn., Mrs. Kate Stearns and daughter Matie of Wells, Minn., Mr. John Little of Kasson, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ben McGregor of Mapleton, Minn., Maud Brisbane of Owatonna, Minn., and Mr. Hans Bilben of Zumbrota, Minn.
