George Winston Benoit, 84, died at 6:17 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 in a local care center. Mr. Benoit was born in Creole and was a resident until 1985 when they moved to the home place in Grand Chenier until Hurricane Rita. After the hurricane, he and his wife moved to Lacassine and later returned to Creole in 2007.He was an active member of St. Eugene Catholic Church. Mr. Benoit was a great father, grandfather and brother and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.


Survivors include his two sons: Raven Benoit and wife, Virginia of Creole; Gary Benoit and wife, Becky of Lake Charles; 5 grandchildren: Kimberly Meaux and husband, Dr. Mike Meaux of Ragley; Christopher Benoit and wife to be, Mindy Thibodeaux of Hayes; Alvin Glenn Benoit and wife Ronda of Grand Lake; Roger Benoit and wife, Tesha of Grand Lake; Amanda Benoit of Lake Charles; 3 Step Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren: Kerrigan and Brenlyee Meaux; Hunter Benoit; Lacey Renee Benoit; 7 Step Great Grandchildren; 4 Sisters: Olive Rutherford of Creole; Corrine Willis of Grand Lake; Barbara Trahan and husband, Darrel of Lake Charles; Norma Lee Bourriaque and husband, Andrew of Lacassine.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia E. Benoit; One son: Alvin Glenn Benoit; Parents: Eli and Alida Benoit; One Brother: Hubert Benoit; One Sister: Lorrain and one Granddaugter: Wilda Mae Benoit.


His funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 in St. Eugene Catholic Church of Grand Chenier with Father Richard Ucxe Adiukwu officiating. Visitation will begin Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the Creole Community Center from 1:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 until 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow in the church cemetery.
