Olive was native of Creole where she spent most of her years. She worked as a cook for Cameron Elementary School and then became a sitter for South Cameron Memorial Hospital Swing Bed Unit and for many elderly families for many years. During her time of working, Olive and Grace ran the Rutherford Motel. Olive also enjoyed traveling with Grace Roberts, Ms. Esther Quinn and Corrine Willis. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church since 1963. Olive enjoyed cooking, gardening and helping others who were in need.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, James "Wendell" Rutherford and wife Doris of Iowa, J.E. Rutherford and wife Julie of Iowa, and Carolyn "Bird" McCall of Grand Chenier; nine grandchildren, Jay Rutherford, Ben Rutherford, Jonathan Rutherford, Janna Trahan and husband Lebo, Joni Miller, Jill Rutherford, Chris McCall and wife Keri, Jodi McCall, and Jody Trahan; seven great grandchildren, Ethan, Justin, Jada, Drayden, La'nae, Grace, and Camp; and sisters, Corrine Willis and Norma Lee Bourriaque.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl Rutherford; son, Karl Lee Rutherford; two brothers, Winston Benoit and Herbert Benoit; and three sisters, Loraine Miller, Barbara Trahan, and Mary Ann Trahan.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles on Sunday, February 27, 2022 beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. until the time of services. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be immediately following at Rutherford Cemetery in Creole.
