Carl Raven Benoit

Creole-Carl Raven Benoit, 61, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 surrounded by his loved ones.
Raven was born April 21, 1953 in Creole, LA to the late Winston & Sylvia Benoit. He graduated from South Cameron High School in 1971 and attended McNeese State University. Raven started working in 1971 for Charles McDaniel. He also worked for Cameron Construction and Crain Brothers. In 2000, he began working for Cameron Parish Mosquito Control and later Dynasty Trucking and Singer Construction. Raven retired form Crain Brothers in February of 2014. He enjoyed visiting with friends, and family and growing the best gardens.

Before Rita, he loved working his cows, and bailing hay for people. He attended Sacred Heart and St. Eugene Catholic Church. He was a member of the Drainage Board. Raven was a big supporter of St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Raven is survived by his wife of 42 years, Virginia Nunez Benoit; daughter, Kimberly Meaux and husband, Dr. Mike Meaux of Ragley; son, Christopher Benoit and wife, Mindy of Hayes; four grandchildren, Kerrigan and Brenlyee Meaux, Halie Thibodeaux and Hunter Benoit; nephew, Glenn Benoit and wife, Rhonda; one brother, Thomas Gary Benoit and wife, Becky; numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his godchildren, Jared LaBove, Patricia Trahan and Roger Benoit.

Raven is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Alvin Glenn Benoit.

A Mass of Christian burial will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Creole on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Herbert J. May officiating. Burial will follow in St. Eugene Cemetery of Grand Chenier under the direction of Johnson & Brown Funeral Home. Visitation begins today, Friday, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Hall from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. and resumes on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of service.

Pallbearers assisting in his service are, Mark Nunez, Jeremy Nunez, Wes Haynie, Jared LaBove, Marty Pearce and Patrick Hebert. Serving as honorary will be Pety Mudd, Paul LaBove, Ronald Duprie, Kent Little, T-June Conner, Floyd Benoit, Joe Savoie, Ricido and Hunter Benoit.

Virginia would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of M. D. Anderson; Drs. James Butch Maze, Leroy E. Fredericks, Louise Becnel and the staff of Amedisys Hospice and especially all that said prayers for both he and his family.
