D. Willard Van Steenwyk, age 75, of Orange City, died Saturday, May 28, 1994 at his residence after a one-year illness.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, May 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Steven Vander Molen officiated. Interment was held prior to the service at West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. A family prayer service was held at 1:15 p.m. at the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home in Orange City.

Donald Willard was born Nov. 20, 1918 at rural Alton, the son of William and Tillie (Bloemendaal) Van Steenwyk. He attended a country school, Northwestern Academy in Orange City and the Alton High School. He worked on his parents' farm until entering the United States Army in 1942. He was stationed in Europe as a member of the 560th Signal Corps.

On April 23, 1944 he married Etta Huisman at Orange City. They made their home on the Van Steenwyk family farm in Holland township until 1958 when they moved to Orange City. Mr. Van Steenwyk owned and operated a portable feed mill from 1962-92.

Willard was a member of the First Reformed Church and Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post 329, both of Orange City. In earlier years he had served on the board of directors of the Farmers Cooperative Oil Association in Orange City and had served as clerk of Holland Township.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters and their husbands, Karen and Jim Bolluyt of Ames, Judy and Kent Eknes of Rock Valley, Bonnie and Robert Vander Schaaf of George, and Tammy and Brian Vermeer of Orange City; three sons and their wives, Don and JoLynn of Iowa Falls, Doug and Kris of Des Moines, and David and Laura of Brookings, S.D.; 15 grandchildren, Katherine, Rebecca and Benjamin Bolluyt; Kirk and Trisha Eknes; Aaron, Adam and Amber Vander Schaaf; Shahna and Tara Van Steenwyk; Haley Van Steenwyk; and Brittony, Afton, Trey and Keaton Vermeer; three sisters, Mrs. Willard (June) Van Peursem and Mrs. George (Joyce) Vogel, both of Orange City, and Mrs. Harris (Rita) VanOort of Omaha, Neb.; four nieces and 11 nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Ernest and four nephews.

Memorials are being directed to Sioux County Hospice.
