Robert Mark McQuillan, age 85, Little Falls, MN died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, Sauk Rapids, MN. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the North Becket Cemetery, Becket, MA. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN.

Robert was born May 5, 1926 in San Francisco, CA. He was the eighth son and the youngest of ten children born to Philip Findley McQuillan and Gladys Blanche Nichols.

As many of his generation did, Robert joined the United States Navy the day after his 17th birthday, May 6, 1943 at Naval Recruiting Station San Francisco, CAlifornia. During the War he served in USS Philip DD-498, USS Young DD-580, USS Springfield CL-66. His decorations and awards include: Combat Action Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Medal w/6 stars, American Defense Seevice Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably dischrged from active duty June 24, 1947 while assigned to temporary duty at Staff Headquarters 12th Naval District, San Francisco, California. He married Vivian A. Beckwith on April 6, 1968 at 111 Windgap Dr., Garden Grove, CA. Robert received his high school diploma while serving in the United States Navy. He worked mostly in the construction field with both small and large equipment in sales, service and operation. Robert was a member of Operating Engineers Locals 12 and 3 in Alameda and Pasadena, CA and operated the concrete pump in both of these locations. He worked with crews who constructed many drainage canal systems in the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding towns. Robert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the Boy Scouts, told many stories of his Navy days and was very proud of all his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian A. McQuillan of Little Falls, MN; sons and daughters, Mark C. (Michele) McQuillan of Manteca, CA; Joan (Michael) Thrall of Discovery Bay, CA; Edward L. (Connie) McQuillan of Sartell, MN; James A. McQuillan of Little Falls, MN; Kim I. (Daniel) Ford of Rice, MN; Thomas O. (Teresa) McQuillan of Little Falls, MN; ten grandchildren, Lyndsey, Katie and Nathan Ford, Ian and Sia McQuillan, Jonathan and Jesstin McQuillan, Sarah McQuillan, Ashley Chamberlain and Erin Thrall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers are Edward McQuillan, Thomas McQuillan, Daniel Ford, Sia McQuillan, Mark McQuillan, and Ian McQuillan.

Memorials are preferred to Youth Programs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
