Ruth Doris Black, 84, of Rupert, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Countryside Care and Rehabilitation in Rupert with her family by her side.
Ruth was born April 30, 1927, in Carlton, Neb., to Diederick and Elsie Lipker Kapperman. She received her education in Davenport, Neb., in a one-room school, graduating at the age of 17. She married William B. Gardiner in 1947 and to this union, four children were born. They moved to Idaho in 1960 and were divorced later. Ruth married William Black in 1967. Ruth worked most of her life working for local optometrists, Dr. Bonde, Dr. Head, Dr. Williams and Dr. Slusser.
She is survived by her sons, Larry (Jennifer) Gardiner of Gilbert, Ariz., and Dan (Sandra) Gardiner of Rupert; daughter, Cheryl Andersen of Rupert; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Black; one son, Bill A. Gardiner; her parents; two sisters; three brothers; and one grandson.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Pike officiating. Burial will follow at the Rupert Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
