William was born Dec. 22, 1919, in Nova Scotia, to William Henry and Rachel Willena MacKay Black. He married Ruth Gardiner on Feb. 14, 1967. He served in the Army in World War II in Europe. After the military, he lived in Pasadena, Calif., and later settled in Rupert. He was a foreman at the Burley Processing plant until he retired at the age of 62.
William is survived by his wife, Ruth of Rupert; stepchildren, Larry Gardiner of Gilbert, Ariz., Dan Gardiner of Heyburn and Cheryl Andersen of Rupert; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Len and Don Black; sister, Elizabeth Black; nephew, Rod; stepson, Bill Gardiner; and grandson, Kenny Hayden.
