David Ralph Allen Sr., a retired superintendent of maintenance at Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi, Miss., died Sunday at his home in Ocean Springs, Miss. He was 76. Mr. Allen was born in Biloxi and lived in Ocean Springs. He was a former commercial fisherman, boat builder and supervisor of the carpenter shop at Keesler Air Force Base. He was a parishioner St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Ocean Springs and a former parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Biloxi, where he was a commentator, Eucharistic minister and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He received the Bishop's Service Cross award from Bishop Joseph Howze of the Diocese of Biloxi. Survivors include his wife, Rita Martinez Allen; five sons, Fabian Allen of Buchanan, Ga., Dr. James Allen of Montgomery, Ala., Dale Allen of Frederickton, Ohio, and Ralph and Leo Allen; three daughters, Sharon Barry, Jeanell Weems and Jerrolyn "Jerry" Comer; two brothers, H. Darney Allen of Albuquerque, N.M., and Harold Walton Allen; three sisters, Althea Allen and Carolyn Simpson, both of Milton, Fla., and Marlene Lumb of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; 38 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. A Mass will be said Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs, and Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
