ACRES, JAMES AUDIE died 7 Jun 1964
Services for James Audie Acres, 45, who passed away suddenly Sunday afternoon, were conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Robbins Congregational Church with Rev. Virgil Cecil officiating. Mr. Acres, mine foreman and general electrician for C. L. Kline mines for 20 years, was found in his car near the Kline Mine on Brimstone around 6:30 Sunday afternoon. A vacuum cleaner hose, attached to the car?s exhaust, was found connected through the car?s window. Deadly carbon monoxide fumes filled the automobile. Co-workers, friends and neighbors in the Robbins community expressed grief and shock in the sudden passing of Mr. Acres, who was well loved and highly-respected throughout the county. According to Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Kline, operators of the mine where Mr. Acres was foreman, Mrs. Acres told them her husband was home when she left for Sunday and Church Sunday morning. She said later that afternoon Charles Kline came by the Acres home to see Mr. Acres, Mrs. Acres told him she believed her husband to be at the mine and expressed concern that he had not returned. Charles drove to the mine, some 6 or 7 miles from Robbins, and found Mr. Acres, lifeless, inside the 1961 Ford. After failing to revive Mr. Acres, young Kline rushed to a telephone and called a physician in Oneida who told him to bring the man to the hospital as quick as he could. As examination at the Scott County Hospital revealed he had been dead for three or four hours. Death is believed to have been the result of Carbon monoxide poisoning. Coroner Norma Acres, County Medical Examiner Dr. Maxwell Huff, and Sheriff Jack Laxton ruled the death suicide. Mr. Acres, a life-long resident of Scott County, was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 670 F. & A.M. He is survived by his wife, Dora Acres, Robbins; three daughters, Mrs. Nelson Robbins, Washington Court House, Ohio, Mrs. Emmitt Woods of Vandalia, Ohio, Miss Brenda Acres, Vandalia, Ohio; three sons, James Audie, Jr., with U.S. Air Force, Blytheville, Arkansas, David Ray and Curtis Lee, both of Robbins; father, Melvin Acres, Rt. 1, Oneida, Tenn.; three sisters, Mrs. Riley Phillips, Oneida, Mrs. Dillard Phillips, Robbins, Tenn., Mrs. Clayton Crabtree, Jamestown, Tenn.; one brother, Obilee Acres, Jacksonville, Florida. Interment in Cotton Cemetery. West, of Oneida, in charge. (Source: The Scott County News, 12 Jun 1964, p1)Mother: Emily Keeton
