MRS. JOHN VORWALD DIED AT NEW VIENNA. DEATH OCCURRED YESTERDAY MORNING AFTER FOUR WEEK'S ILLNESS.
Mrs. John Vorwald passed away at the family home in New Vienna Sunday, Sept. 19, 1937, after an illness of four weeks' duration. The cause of her death was old age.
Deceased's maiden name was Miss Katherine Staebler and she was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, April 15, 1856 and was 81 years of age. When a young girl she came to New Vienna and that place has been her home ever since.
In the year 1874 the deceased was united in marriage to Mr. John T. Ahlers in Holy Trinity church at Luxemburg and in June, 1888, Mr. Ahlers died.
In Aug., 1896, the deceased was married to Mr. John Vorwald of New Vienna. Her husband Supervisor John Vorwald died several years ago.
Mrs. Vorwald is survived by the following children: A. T. Ahlers, Guttenberg; Mary, Mrs. Fred Vorwald, New Vienna; Mathilda, Mrs. Albert Becker, Dyersville; John Ahlers, New Vienna; Rosa, Mrs. Rose Boeckenstedt, New Vienna; Hugo Ahlers, New Vienna; Jos. A. and Leo Ahlers of Farley. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Gottlieb Staebler, Williams, Ia.; Charles Staebler, Guttenberg; Mrs. Elizabeth Luther, Haverhill.
The funeral took place Wednesday morning from her late home to St. Boniface church at New Vienna, where requiem high mass was sung for the repose of her soul by Rev. Father Ed Becker, after which her remains were laid to rest in the family lot in St. Boniface cemetery. The pallbearers were all nephews: Messrs Elmer Ahlers, Lawrence Boeckenstedt, Alfred Vorwald, Edwin Ahlers, Laverne Ahlers and Irvin Ahlers. Out of town relatives present at the funeral were: Gottlieb Staebler, brother, of Williams, Ia.; Charles Staebler, brother, Guttenberg; Mrs. Elizabeth Luther, sister, Haverhill, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Staebler of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Miller of Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Valentine, Algona; Mrs. John Kopl, Joseph L. Pille and Alphonse Pille of Haverhill, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vorwald, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Vorwald, Bloomington, Wis.
Mrs. Vorwald was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Boniface parish and was a devout Catholic. She was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends.
