Mr Basiger was born in Delaware, Ohio on December 29, 1875, the son of Samuel and Florinda Basiger. He was one of 8 children and is the first to pass away. He grew to young manhood there and when 21 went to Illinois and later to Iowa and Kansas.
He was married in 1911 in Emporia, Kansas to Mrs Flora Jennings. The couple farmed there until 1913 when they came to the State Center community. Mr Basiger farmed here and in the neighboring communities until 1947 when he retired from farming.
Before going to Nevada last fall he spent 15 months at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Kenneth Hah at Santa Monica, California and also visited in Oregon and Washington while on the west coast.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs Kenneth Hahn of Santa Monica, California and Mrs Albert Henze of State Center; a step-daughter, Mrs Frank Snyder of Marshalltown and a step-son, Chester Jennings of Des Moines. Also surviving are two sisters, five brothers, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Mr Basiger was a former member of the Methodist church.
