At the age of eighteen, Levi moved to Jackson County, Iowa. In 1849, he married Mary Keister; and, the couple had three sons. After Mary's death, Levi later married Lydia P. Townsend in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; and, the couple had five children. On February 22, 1887, Levi secured a piece of land near the new town of Beresford, Dakota Territory. He lived on that land until finally selling it and purchasing a home in the northern part of Beresford. After Lydia passed away, Levi eventually married Anna E. Stoner.

In August of 1904, Levi developed stomach problems during excessive heat; but, the problems were not believed to have been serious. After physicians dealt with the stomach problems, other problems soon appeared. Levi became weak, rallied, and then gradually grew weaker. He eventually died during a deep sleep.

Levi was survived by his third wife, Anna, and by his eight children. The children from his first marriage were G. W. Lambertson and W. Scott Lambertson of DeWit, Iowa; and, J. D. Lambertson of Storm Lake, Iowa. The children from his second marriage were Frank D. Lambertson of Primghar, Iowa; Mrs. Montgomery of Fairfield, Iowa; Ed Lambertson of Hawarden, Iowa; and, Harry Lambertson and Mrs. J. T. Scroggs of Beresford, South Dakota.
