PORT BYRON - Funeral services for Don Beard, 87, of Port Byron, formerly of Viola, who died last night in the Oak Glen Nursing Home, Coal Valley, following a brief illness, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Crummy Funeral Home, Viola.

The Rev. G. Albert Murphy of the Preemption United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in Viola Cemetery. Visitation will be tomorrow evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Beard was born Dec. 1, 1887, in Viola, where he had lived most of his life.

He was a son of Isaac and Emma Mae Whorton Beard. He attended Viola schools and married Bessie Mae Glancey on March 15, 1910, in Rock Island. She died Nov. 23, 1965.

He was a brick mason and was of a member of the Viola United Methodist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Chalmers of Moline, Fred of East Moline, Keith of Moline, Dwight of Port Byron and Glen of Moline; three daughters, Mrs. Elsie Munson of Viola, Mrs. Marjorie Kistler of Galesburg, and Mrs. Betty Lemon of Aledo; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Howard of Rock Island.

He also was preceded in death by seven sisters and three brothers.
