Mrs. Bracken was a lifelong supporter and benefactor of Ball State University and a patron of the arts and letters. She was honored by Ball State with an honorary doctor of humanities degree in 1986.
Mrs. Bracken was the daughter of Frank C. Ball, on of the five Ball Brothers who bought Muncie Normal Institute that later became Ball State University. Her father was a trustee at the school and her husband, Alexander Bracken, was a trustee from 1954 until 1980. Bracken Library is named in his honor. Her son, Frank M. Bracken, was also a longtime BSU trustee.
She was a graduate of Muncie High School, attended Emma Willard Preparatory School in New York and graduated from Vassar College.
She was a member of the founding board of the Minnetrista Cultural Foundation and was on the board of the George and Frances Ball Foundation. She was a patron of Mu Phi Epsilon music honorary and also was a member of the Conversation Club, Art Students League and Paul Revere chapter of Daughters of the American Legion.

Services for Rosemary Ball Bracken will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Grace Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Calling will be 1-5 p.m. Tuesday at Mrs. Bracken's home.
Survivors include four sons, Frank A. Bracken (wife-Judy), Thomas B. Bracken (wife-Judy), William M. Bracken (wife-Margaret), and Alexander E. Bracken (wife-Sally); one daughter, Elizabeth B. Wiese (husband-J. Frederic Jr.); 16 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Alexander M. Bracken, died in 1991.
Memorials may be made to Ball State University Foundation or Minnetrista Cultural Foundation. Meeks Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
