She was born in Wirt County on Oct 23, 1913, the daughter of the late Carlos and Glenna Watson.
Marie was an amazing lady who dedicated her life to her family and a number of organizations, was a substitute cook for the Wirt County Schools, a member of the Elizabeth United Methodist Church, Mary Elizabeth Circle, Wirt County Homemakers CEOS of Elizabeth, life-time member of the Farm Bureau, Southern States Association, and a life-time member of the Wirt County Fair. She was the Belle of Wirt County in 1984 and during the 20th Vandalia Gathering in Charleston, W.Va. was honored for creating the "Block Quilt of Wirt County "for the 1996 West Virginia Quilt Show.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Jones and her husband Ted of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Pamela Clevenger and her husband Dan of Washington, W.Va.,Terry Crislip and his wife Pamala of Parkersburg, Joe Crislip and his wife Diana of Parkersburg, Luann Ayers and her husband Mike of Parkersburg; two stepgrandchildren, Todd Jones and his wife Cheryl of Dalzell, S.C., Betsy Utt and her husband Scott of Parkersburg; eight great-grandchildren, Aimee Morrison and husband Neal of Parkersburg, Julie Davis and husband Eric of Ironton Ohio, Chad Crislip and wife Mandy of Indianapolis, Ind., Bryan Crislip and fiancee Cheyanne Stanley of Parkersburg, Meredith Crislip of Huntington, W.Va., Allison Crislip of Huntington, Kyle Ayers of Parkersburg, Kayla Ayers of Parkersburg and several great-great- grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Watson and Imogene Watson, both of Parkersburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Young; both of her parents; four brothers, Dock, Rex, Julius and Melvin Watson; three sisters, Bea Fought, Alma Fought, and Maggie Goodwin.
Services will be Monday, March 14, 11 a.m. at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth with the Rev. Lee Williams and Pastor Mark Houser officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, March 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Interment will be at K of P Cemetery of Elizabeth.
