Carl died from a large rock falling on him while building the Buchanan Dam. He was on the Llano County side of the dam when a part of the dam calapsed and the rock fell on him. His death certificate reads that he received a fracture at his 1st and 2nd cervical vertibrae. From what the family heard, he told his boss the hole he was working in was unsafe. However, knowing that jobs were hard to find and there was a line of workers waiting for his job, he decided to go in anyway.
