Lena E. Binau Gibbs was born near Allerton, Iowa, July 31, 1893, and passed away in the University hospital in Iowa City, Iowa at 8;40 P.M. Wednesday, october 7, 1936, at the age of 43 years, 2 months and 7 days.
All her life has been spent in and around Allerton. She graduated from the Allerton High School in 1911. She spent eight years teaching in the public schools of Wayne County, three of them in the Allerton Public schools. Her college work was taken at the Highland Park College, Des Moines.
She was married to Ben A. Gibbs June 21, 1919. To this union were born two children, Rex, age 14, and Margaret Lenore, age 12. She was a devoted wife and mother, always interested in the finest things of life that would help to build the highest qualities of Christian character in her home and the lives of her family.
She became a Christian early in life and joined the Methodist Episcopal church at New Zion. Later, when with her parents she became a resident of Allerton, she transferred her membership to the Allerton Methodist church , of which she has been a faithful and consistent member till called to the church triumphant. She was the teacher of the High School Sunday school class for a number of years, and was the director of the Queen Ester circle until two years ago. She was a member of Chapter EU of the PEO Sisterhooh in which organization she has held many offices. She was interested in the work of the Parent-Teachers association, was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, and of several of the local club organizations.
She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her husband and two children, her mother, Mrs. Ida Binau, two brothers, George R. and Karl B., both of Allerton, two sisters, Mrs. Laura Newingham, of Longton, Kansas and Hannah K. Binau of Des Moines, as well as a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father on May 17, 1929 and by her sister, Margaret on Freebruary 16, 1936.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J.W. Gruber.
