Born to a prominent Portland family, she was active in the insurance business and in several community organizations. She was an enthusiastic gardener, a member of the Primrose society, and was an officer and frequent program presenter in the Oregon Herb Society. Miss Seaman's mother came to Oregon in 1852 by covered wagon.
