A civil engineer by profession, but perhaps better known for his work as a naturalist and researcher of Pacific Northwest Native American lifestyles, which resulted in the 1946 publication of the authoritative book "Indian Relics of the Pacific Northwest."
He was a charter member of the Oregon Archaeological Society and a lifelong member of the Audubon Society of Oregon.
