Lydia was the 4th of 10 children of Silas Kyle & Virginia Frances (Killingsworth - Malcomb) Sims. She was born on Shaw's Ridge east of Doe Hill, Highland Co, VA.
The Sims family moved to Coles Co, IL in 1887.
She had one son out of wedlock by George Newton Broadhurst in 1898.
She m. Granville Joshua "Chap" Bayes in 1905 in Champaign, IL, and they moved to the state of Washington shortly thereafter.

BAYES, Lydia J., age 95, Rt. 1, Lynden passed away Sunday, March 13, (1966). A resident of Whatcom County since 1906 she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lynden.
Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Wanda Stuurmans, Nooksack, two sons, Percy of Edmonds, Russell of Spokane and Marshall of Lynden. Two sisters, Mrs. Esther Tomberlin, Enterprise, Ore., and Mrs. Anna Rhodes, Toledo, Ill. 12 grandchildren. 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Gillies Funeral Home Wednesday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in the Lynden Cemetery.
