Silas Kyle is the grandson of James Sims (1755-1818) and Sarah (Hullinger, the widow of Richard Somers) (1760-1806).

Following Sarah's death, James married Margaret, the widow of Philip Anton Seybert about 1808.

Burial locations for James, Sarah and Margaret are unknown.

Four of the five of James' sons: John, William James Jr. & Joseph) moved to Clark, Champaign and Miami Co. OH between 1810 and 1830, while Silas remained on the home place in Pendleton (now Highland) Co, VA, where he died after 1845.

Burial locations for Silas and William and their wives are unknown.

Silas Sims (1791-1846) m1. on 19 Feb 1819 in Pendleton Co, VA to Catherine Seybert. They were parents of John Beniah (c1815-1874) & Margaret (c1821-c1880), before divorcing about 1834.

Silas Sims m2. on 13 Dec 1843 in Pendleton Co, VA to Sarah A. "Sally" Hiney (1789-1886), the former wife of Henry Washington Crummett (c1790-1846). They were the parents of Silas Kyle Sims (1844-1902).

Silas Kyle was born and initially lived in Pendleton Co, VA, but he was also raised, married, and fathered his 10 children in Highland Co, VA. However, they had not moved! The Pendleton Co, VA property where the Sims family lived on Shaw's Ridge became part of the new Highland Co, VA on 19 Mar 1847 when it was created because of new county boundaries being created due to increasing population.

NOTE: Pendleton Co, VA was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1788 from parts of Augusta, Hardy, and Rockingham Counties and was named for Edmund Pendleton, a distinguished Virginia statesman and jurist.

In 1852, Pendleton County was included by the federal government in the new state of West Virginia, hence Pendleton Co, WV did not exist before then.

Silas Kyle moved from Highland Co, VA to Coles Co, IL with his wife and 9 of his 10 children arriving in March, 1887.

Only one daughter, Ida May, remained, settling in Pendleton Co, VA just north of the VA/WV state line after having married Elias "Eli" Bodkin on Dec 5, 1886 in her father's home on Shaw's Ridge.
