John Franklin Terry was known as John or J. F. Terry; being named after his two grandfathers, John Williamson Terry and Joseph Franklin Griffith. He was a life-long automobile mechanic and farmer-rancher.

According to his obituary, he died at 12:10 a.m. on July 23, 1974, but his death certificate showed July 22, 1974 at 11:30 p.m. The death certificate was not filed until September 18, 1974. It looks as if the typed in July 22 had been altered when the doctor signed it. Mother was with him when he died, and she was sure he died before midnight. However, his military marker application was based on the obituary and that is what was inscribed on the marker.
