William Ira Bond was the son of John J. Crittendon Bond and Cordelia Noel Hawkins.

Ira was sixteen when his family moved to Tulsa in 1905. He worked as a delivery wagon driver for Ratcliff-Sanders Wholesale Grocery Company. He gave up his grocery career to become an electrician and later became a retail merchant, first as a partner and then owner of Dodge and Bond Men's Clothiers, 57 East 2nd Street, Tulsa, from 1915 until 1963. He served in World War I and was a member of Carson-Wilson American Legion Post. He was a member of the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce from it's inception.

Ira married Josephine Stone on January 18, 1919 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Ira and Josephine had children: Betty Joe and Jean. Following Josephine's passing, he remarried to Elinor Huss on January 21, 1947 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

He was appointed an honorary Colonel by two Kentucky governors, a fifty year charter member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 584; a 32nd Degree Mason, McAlester Consistory; a member of the Tulsa Masonic Lodge; a member of the Tulsa Pioneers Association; and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
