Cambria Tribune, Johnstown, PA, Wednesday, January 21, 1885:

Died in Richland Township on the 19th, Mrs. Mary Sidman, aged 76 years, 8 months, 17 days. She was the relict of Rev. J. R. Sidman, who died 15 years ago. Her maiden name was Roup. She leaves 6 daughters and 1 son: Mrs. Henry Shoemaker of Westmoreland County; Mrs. William Updegrave of Johnstown; Mrs. Jacob Smay of Summerhill; Mrs. William Rodgers of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Joseph Livingston of Adams Township; Mrs. Robert Trotter of Adams Township; and John of Johnstown. A son, William, is deceased- his widow lives in Westmoreland County.

Rev. John R. Sitman worked with Rev. John Rider (Findagrave #84325640) who died in 1849. They were United Brethren ministers & founded the Allegheny Conference which was created in 1838 & covered the territory of the western counties of PA & the eastern slope of the Alleghenies.

The United Brethren joined the Evangelical Church in 1946 in Johnstown PA to become the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) & then became the United in the United Methodist in 1968. Some of the large churches in Johnstown were orginally United Brethren. Their origins were from small groups which were started in people's homes orgainized by circuit riding ministers such as Rev. Sitman & Rev. Rider.
