W.R. Akins,45,died in Griffin Hospital in Claxton last Tuesday morning after a long illness.
A native of Tattnall County he was the son of the late W.R. and Mrs. Emma Bland Akins, and was a member of the First Christian Church of Glennville and the Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise Banks Akins of Glennville; five daughters, Mrs. Jimmy Purvis of Savannah, Mrs. Jerrell Purvis, Miss Beth Akins, Miss Sandra Akins, Miss Sherrie Akins, all of Glennville; two grandson; seven sisters, Mrs. Francis Freeman, Mrs. Leslie Kicklighter, Mrs. Emmie Parker of Glennville, Mrs. Willie Mae Blocker of Jesup, Mrs. Lillie Bland and Mrs. Sallie Kicklighter of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. Glennville First Christian Church conducted by Rev. W.A. Cook, assisted by Rev. W.R. Barnard and Rev. Jack Hudson. Burial was in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were H.J. Dawson, Reggie Collins, Elbert Kicklighter, Coy Perkins, Billy Coleman and Sammie Griffin. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Adult Sunday School Class, Elders and Deacons of the First Christian Church and Colon Lynn, H.N. Baxter, L.L. Hilton, Slater Griffin, Dr. C.H. Drake, Fred Rogers, Hugh Strickland and Curtis Kicklighter.
Rimes Mortuary of Glennville was in charge.
