Mrs. Lou Thompson of Alfalfa celebrated her ninetieth birthday by hoeing weeds in the yard at her farm home in the Alfalfa community. She seemed reticent when asked to pose for a picture. Time was wasting she wanted to keep on chopping weeds.
Lou Inez Williams was born in White Bluff, Tenn. on June 16, 1885. In 1902 she moved to Kremlin, Okla., later going on to Duncan. It was here that she married W.O. "Sam" Thompson on Dec. 10, 1903. They were living in this town
when the oldest boy, Comer, was born in 1906. This heir was a veteran of World War II. He died in 1963.
The family moved to Clovis, N.M., where another son, Floyd, was born in 1908. Still on the move they next settled in Plainview, Texas. Here they greeted their first daughter, Beatrice, in 1909. Their next location was near Lawton, in Comanche county where Lex came to join the crew.
The last move was to the present home in Caddo county, northeast of Carnegie, in 1912. Here the family was completed by the addition of Fairy and ted. All of
the children attended school at Caddo Star, Alfalfa, and/or Carnegie. Of all the family only Ted remained at home to farm the place and be taken care of by his mother.
Mr. Thompson died in 1956, and Beatrice, Mrs. James Kardokus of Apache, succumbed after a lingering illness in 1961.
She has ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great, great, great-grandchild. One of the first is a pathologist in Saginaw, Michigan. Other live in various areas and carry on busy, full lives.
